OUR STORY

The work of the Lutheran Church began in Carbondale in 1927. Rev. Ray Rist served as pastor from 1943-1985. In 1985, Pastor Gray was called to combine the congregation's ministry with that of the Lutheran Student Center at our current location. Pastor Holden served as vicar and was called as pastor in 2012.  Pastor Weeks served as vicar and was called as an associate pastor in 2021.

On December 6, 1992, a tragic fire gave Our Savior the opportunity to intentionally reach out to the international community. Today we have many Bible Studies at church and in members' homes to share our faith with internationals.

For many American college students, we serve as their church away from home. Our Savior seeks to strengthen and encourage students' faith through Word and Sacrament. American Lutheran students are invited to weekly Bible Study and "Table Talk" (a home cooked meal after worship each Sunday). Students have many opportunities to serve the church. We heartily welcome their input and service.

As Our Savior has grown, we have added to our facilities to make them totally accessible to everyone. We seek to share that Good News of God's Love for us in Jesus Christ by being involved in our community. While working to take care of and love our members, we also seek to let our community know that everyone, of all nations and colors, are loved by God and are welcome here. We are a church in mission!
